Midlands Bird Society
About
Midlands Bird Society endeavors to educate students on the local birdlife of South Carolina and share our love for birds with the wider campus community. In addition, Midlands Bird Society strives to be an all-inclusive community for birdwatchers and ornithology enthusiasts. Anyone with an interest in birds is welcome, regardless of their knowledge or experience. Undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and staff are all permitted to join.
Activities of the club include, but are not limited to the following:
• Planned bird walks/excursions for the purpose of observing and identifying birds in their natural habitats, also known as "birdwatching" or "birding."
• Advocacy for public and university policy that protects birds and their habitats.
• Engagement in conservation activities, including creating initiatives to ensure campus and surrounding community spaces are bird-friendly.
• Discussions about the conservation statuses of local bird species, interesting bird sightings in the local area, and how to get involved with conservation efforts, e.g. with our local Audubon chapter: Columbia Audubon Society.
