Student Nutrition Group
About
The Student Nutrition Group (SNG) acts as a gathering place for USC students interested in nutrition. SNG covers a wide range of nutrition topics including gut health, food across cultures, dietetics, disordered eating, food insecurity, sports nutrition, allergies, food as medicine, dietary supplements, food safety, nutrition across the lifespan, food systems, sustainable eating, eating patterns, nutrition education, and more.
SNG provides the opportunity to learn more about nutrition topics through guest speakers, student speakers, and research presentations. Hands-on learning opportunities are available through cooking demonstrations, service projects, and farm tours.
The club is open to students looking to pursue a career in nutrition as well as students interested in learning more about their personal nutrition. Students seeking professional opportunities in nutrition benefit from graduate student mentors, research connections, and professional development opportunities such as leading outreach opportunities.
SNG seeks to incorporate diverse thoughts and beliefs into conversations, but SNG prohibits conversations that promote disordered eating. SNG hopes to make USC a better place by eliminating college food insecurity, educating our peers on nutrition resources, and advocating for improvements in campus dining advertisements.
SNG is sponsored by the Nutrition Consortium which provides research and professional opportunities to its members!
SNG is open to all USC undergraduates and currently has no membership requirements or dues. Join our community by requesting membership on Garnet Gate, emailing the President (gshupard@email.sc.edu), DM us on Instagram (usc_sng), joining our Group Me, or showing up to our monthly meetings and events.
