Waverly After School Program
About
Waverly is an after school education and enrichment program for underserved students in the Columbia community. Our mission is to enhance the lives and opportunities of children in the Columbia community; to serve as educational role models’ who provide a fun, safe, and caring experience; and to develop the self-esteem and literacy skills of all children who participate and help them realize that they can succeed despite the challenges they face.
We accomplish our mission by providing tutoring and mentoring across many age groups. While the organization was created by USC Honors College students in 2003, our organization is open to anyone here at USC!
Though we have partnered with several different local centers in the past, recent efforts have been focused on working with Homeless No More. Homeless No More serves local families in the Columbia area who struggle with homelessness, offering housing and education amongst other family support services. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to support children's education by not only helping with school work, but by serving as a role model and forming relationships with them. All centers have adult employees that assist with discipline and logistics after our volunteers leave for the day. Transportation will be coordinated within the group, and therefore should be of no concern to future members.
This year we hope to expand our organization and continue with our volunteer efforts. Please press "join organization" to learn more about our meeting times!
